I wanted to create something I can use to teach how to ask good research questions to grades 7 & 8. For this, I chose to use the program Bublr to create a slideshow using Flickr images. The images available to browse and use are copyright free. The Bublr program credits the photos you select at the bottom of each image used in your slide. You are allowed to chose from a few types of thought and talk bubbles to add captions to the photos. It was easy to search the photos by tag, idea, title or user. I tried to keep the writing as brief as possible, figuring that I’d be presenting the slideshow and able to elaborate if need be. I chose to focus primarily on the main idea of each slide, while trying to choose images that complement the information written.
Because my targeted audience is grades 7 & 8, I wanted to add in a bit of humor, so I chose to have a few slides with monkeys in conversation and the teaching/learning between.
The biggest downfall to using Bublr is the inability to add a slide of text-only. I realize that citing sources is critical, but could not figure out how to add in my works cited. So, as a presentation, or posting this anywhere I need to add in the citation on another platform to share. I do not like this. Because of this, I would only use Bublr in the future for material that does not require citations.
